Turns out it was just a really messed up Windows XP. After I finally managed to get my own software on there (as the USB was completely not working, as drivers would not install for NOTHING), we realized that he did indeed have some nasty stuff on the system. I had already tried the Ethernet card replacement, as well as other systems on that specific JACK to make sure it wasn't the JACK... as well as putting that system on another JACK altogether, still no go. I usually have all my tools on both USB sticks AND CDs AND DVDs. However, I took the CD/DVD holder out of my work bag a few nights before and forgot to replace it. Hence, no way to install and run tools using the USB... which WAS enable, btw, in the bios. Since I left the job site only to come back and dominate yet another day, I then came back with the tools on DVD, which of course changed the whole story. However, the only fix was a complete reinstall and reinstallation of the office financial-specific software. Tool all freakin' day, but worth it when at the end of the day the guy says to me, "I'll probably have you do some regular maintenance jobs on my workstations." :o) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ SirTroth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ ICQ: 1717439 ~ YAHOO: SirTroth ~ SKYPE: SirTroth ~ XFIRE: SirTroth ~ AIM/AOL: SirTrothX ~ http://ut2004.sirtroth.com ~ MSN: SirTroth@xxxxxxxxxxx (For MSN Chat) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gman Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 12:39 AM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: XPS 400 Troth, I know it's a silly question, but have you tried replacing the ethernet cable first? If all other systems are working fine, nothing beyond that cable should be touched. My second though is that I've also never seen a LAN light glowing orange, but I also know that a red LED without sufficient power can glow a very light red, which would appear as orange under the right circumstances. Test the PS and make sure it's providing enough juice for the system. there may be a bad rail or something else that's preventing full power from reaching that light (and other things). In the meantime, I'm off to see if I can find some real info for you on those lights.
