Teri,
    The Splash screen is shown before windows completely loads your video 
card's drivers.  Instead, it relies on the mainboard's ability to display 
images.  To fix this, you'll have to play around with your monitor's sizing 
controls until that splash fills the entire monitor screen.  Of course, this 
will probably alter the image that Windows shows once everything is loaded 
properly, so you'll then need to play around with the similar settings 
you'll find under the Advanced button in Control Panel's Display Properties 
applet.  Personally, I feel it's more work than it's worth for such little 
gain.           ;O}

    And I want you to know that I truly appreciate your 'inquiring mind'. 
It's the only way to learn those things you wish to know and understand.
