From everything I have read (and it's quite a bit), SP3 is an easier install 
than SP2 was (for those who did not buy XP with SP2 already included).  It's 
also of interest to note that MS pulled the original release because they 
found a bug in it that would have affected a small minority of users.  That 
tells me that they are at least somewhat interested in keeping their name on 
the good side of everyone's checklist (well, there are other reasons too, 
but we can dream, right?).       lol

So, if you get the notice, it means that Windows Update has confirmed that 
your system is now ready for it (you already have all of the previous 
updates that are necessary for this one).  Go ahead and let it do its thing.
