You won't 'get her to subscribe' as long as you continue to provide her the answers yourself. I often suffer/enjoy the same malady, so don't take that statement too hard. lol The simplest way to explain what I'm saying is that there are right methods, wrong nethods and everything in between for learning information. A group like PCTT is one of the right ways, in my opinion. You get relatively quick responses from others who routinely work on computers along with the option to ask for additional information if needed. You also have an opportunity to get more than one opinion when the solution to your issue is not quite clear cut. There's a 'check & balance' built right into the system that, in most cases, will catch an improper solution and self-correct. Of course, a tech email group is not the only right approach, but it sure is a great way to learn more about these things, even if you're not here to solve a specific issue you might be experiencing. You can join a group, lurk in the background and just soak up the knowledge and understanding that comes through in the various threads, even ignoring those that might seem 'over your head'. However, asking someone to ask someone else is definitely one of the less ideal ways to go about it (much closer to the wrong methods). There is far too much room for misinterpretation and the one providing the answers (our techs and power users) is forced to operate with only partial info on the situation itself. Think of it like having a qualified airline pilot sitting back in coach while a non pilot is sitting in the cockpit. You (Sandi) are playing the role of a stewardess running back and forth between us trying to relay important info so that person might learn how to land the plane safely. If you misinterpret what we suggest or they misinterpret what you tell them, we're probably gonna have a bad day. If I'm the pilot back in coach, I sure can't see the controls and dials and other info I need from where I am so there's no way for me to anticipate unforseen problems if they come up while we're going 'by the book'. This is FAR from ideal, don't you think? I LOVE to teach and she obviously wants to learn. So please relay this to Pam for me before you go back to serving drinks, making sure we all have our seatbelts on and getting pillows for the folks who'd like to take a nap (lol). Pam, I'm more than happy to answer any and ALL of your questions and even show you stuff that might make other parts of your computing life easier and more productive. After all, I LIVE for helping folks with this stuff. But I simply cannot do it through someone else. It's not fair to me (I'm flying blind), it's not fair to you (you're really not learning anything this way) and it sure isn't fair to that someone else, either (obviously). This group is not a high volume list, so you won't be getting hundreds of emails from us every day (Sandi can confirm that if necessary). We'll even walk you through the steps to set up a separate folder and filter to catch the posts from this group to keep them out of your Inbox. :) Peace, Gman "The only dumb questions are the ones we fail to ask" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandi Beach" <sandib2@xxxxxxxxx> To: "pctechtalk" <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, June 02, 2009 9:25 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Running apps at the same time >I just remembered that Pam told me she was running her scans (AdAware and > Spybot) at the same time and wondered if that was o.k.
