You CAN set Zonealarm NOT to pop up..Mine doesn't. Unless you WANT to know at the time what's coming or going. If not you can stop the popups and go to the firewall log to see what the actions were..it's constant and ongoing and you can even watch when it happens. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dolores" <inquisitive@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, February 13, 2004 6:44 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: New Question re Domjuice worm and advice I guess so now that it's been explained to me as Zone Alarm does that also - it just seemed strange that the article seemed to differentiate between the firewall and this 'application control software'. I'm beginning to think that there are firewalls that only stop incoming and not outgoing and that was what they were trying to cover - Zone Alarm pops up for me all the time (sometimes annoyingly but I'll never complain!) so I have the 'notify me every time' option turned off and it only shows when something is trying to go out and of course is about 1/1000nd of the incoming attempts - thanks! Is this what you are talking about? Dolores I read an article regarding the deviation of the latest worm and in it they said the following: "Further incidences of infection likely will be seen among home users with digital subscriber lines (DSL) and cable modems, according to Magallenez. "Firewalls alone are not sufficient protection," he said. "Users now want to incorporate three things into their personal arsenal: antivirus software, firewalls and, becoming more important, application control software to identify which applications are trying to access the Internet and allow or deny permission." What is an application control software and where can I find it - I have the antivirus and firewall of course but if this will also help prevent me getting viruses I want to add it to my arsenal of security - thanks!
