It is not unusual that any media player can play streaming video faster than the video can get streamed to you. This is especially true for folks on the lower range of broadband speeds and always true for folks on dial up. If watching while downloading is important then the first thing you can do is increase the speed of your broadband access. The second thing is to try streaming during periods when the internet is not so busy between you and the source (good luck figuring that timing out). Otherwise wait until the streaming indicator shows it is at least 50 to 75% buffered then drag the progress button back to the beginning. If that doesn't help just download the video and then watch it from your hard drive or hope someone else has some more ideas. To change the program that opens a file, right click on the file, select OPEN WITH and then SELECT DEFAULT PROGRAM. All should be self-explanatory after that. A friend of mine just video'd a drum and dance weekend festival I attended. He gave me a link to the videos, but unless I play them at a tiny "web size," the clips keep constantly stopping and interrupting themselves...? -It's really very annoying, to the point of making the videos unwatchable!! Is there any way I can improve my streaming video setup so I can watch larger (or perhaps higher def) videos w/o this annoying problem? I'm using WinXP and Win Media Player on an older PC. Should I use a better video player than Win Media, or perhaps could some kind of anti-virus security program be knocking out my vids? Also, I forgot how to get to the MS software that let's you assign suffixes to different programs... (Like .wmv .jpg, etc....) -I'm thinking maybe I should use something other than Win Media for .wmv files?
