AFAIK, IE6 only works with Windiows2000 or XP. I could be wrong here, I'm sure I used to run it with 98se, but then perhaps not. If you're running 98se, then you would be advised to probably run IE5.5. I'm not sure which version of IE works with ME, someone else here would have to advise you on that one.
