Well I guess my first mistake was saving all of my pictures in .jpg format! The only thing I did right was in the resizing I did click the box that says "maintain aspect ratio" (except in the sample I mentioned to you!). I'll check out the sizes and see what I can do with them. How about the ones I'm going to scan, is there a better way to save other than .jpg? ----- Original Message ----- From: Chris Spotta To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 1:29 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Help with Pictures on CD If you only have one copy of each picture it will not matter - you will have to use it! As a general rule .jpg and .gif are normally compressed for web use and most other formats are not You example pic you mentioned is taller than it is wide, so you will never be able to get it 800x600 without stretching it and it looking terrible If most of your pictures can go 800x600 without getting pixelated then I would use this size and on your example pic I would 'constrain proportions' in your software (so if you change either the width or height the other changes to keep the picture in the correct proportions) and change the height to 600px - then it will fit in with the rest of the pictures height wise during the slide show but just not be as wide. I think that's the best work around. If you have a lot of pictures that are off the standard 4:3 ratio post back and I'll talk you through a slightly different way to do it Regards Chris callto://spotta/ chris@xxxxxxxxxx http://www.spotta.com -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Glo Sent: 10 August 2005 09:11 To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Help with Pictures on CD Hi Chris, I appreciate your response. How do I know if pictures are compressed or uncompressed? For example, I have one that shows (in Irfanview) as width 317, height 353 (pixels). This is in the "resize" screen. On the right-hand half it shows "some standard dimensions" where I can go up to 800 x 600 before it gets all pixelly (at 1024). So is that how I can determine my best size, just by trying how big they can go before they get too pixelly? ~Glo ----- Original Message ----- From: Chris Spotta To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 12:46 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Help with Pictures on CD To get you started on your quest! I don't think the size of the pictures (kb) matters at all in relation to the projector, but if you have uncompressed pictures they will be better quality than compressed ones - so use the biggest ones you have. What will matter is the size (pixels) of the picture. A standard projector will be 4:3 (height 3/4 of width) So try to crop all your pictures to match - 800x600 or 1024x768. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
