Are you saying the removable drive you had at H: was before you formatted
and did a clean install? If so, then I have no idea where those folder came
from.

Right... but if you format the computer, and do a clean OS install, there
should not be any old registry entries, should there???

Now that's the million dollar question. I think it might have to do with
registry entries. I notice when you run a registry cleaner and get ton of
file not found's, it's mostly stuff pointing to removable drives and
CD/DVD's. So, basically you install something from a removable drive and it
puts in the registry the install from path, location of its helpfile and
extras, all pointing to the removable drive that you plan on removing
shortly after installing.

Ed, you could be right there. I did have an external drive as H:. But how
would a program installed after the formatting and the assignement of the
drive letters go looking where it shouldn´t???

Lil, I'm curious about this and might have an idea about your H:\BUTTONS and
H:\DATA. Was there a CD, DVD, or removable drive that used to be H: before
you added the new drive? If so, then you have a program that is looking for
data at those locations. I used to have a lot more unexplained folders
before I started assigning only higher letters for new partitions. I keep
D:, E:, F:, and G: available for any removable drives. I even always assign
R: to my main DVD drive.

Lil,
Windows adds the Recycle Bin and Restore folders to every permanent
partition it finds automatically. That even includes partitions found on
drives connected through the USB port (externals).
Windows Update can use ANY partition to temporarily hold its install
files, but it doesn't always clean up after itself. I have one on my O:
drive that won't allow me to delete it, even when using a program dedicated
to removing unmovable files. That's because it's an empty folder with no
files to lock onto.
