Fred Langa did some research on the use of labels on CD-ROM disks
(www.langa.com, publishes a VERY good newsletter in free or paid editions.
Both are very worthwhile). Bottom line is that sticking labels on your CDs
will shorten their lifespan considerably. If you want to keep it simple and
black ink will do, buy a Sharpie. I use multiple colors and buy them on
sale.

You could also try playing with a CD label printer software and try printing
your label on the paper sleeve you put the CD into instead of printing it on
a label. Or, print your info on an address label and stick it on the
sleeve. Or, keep your disks in a plastic case and print an insert to go in
the case or print a label and stick it on the case
