-=PCTechTalk=- Monitor "locks up"

Hello all,
     Recently and almost at least once a day, I have to reboot, because 
either the flat screen monitor remains a "black screen", or the mouse is frozen 
in 
place.
     I initially thought the problem might be with the screen saver, but I 
set it to {none}, and the problem keeps happening. I looked at device manager 
and there aren't any exclamation marks. I don't have a clue what to do next. 
Hopefully someone here knows how to fix this.
