'instal disc'.!!!!!!Have you tried 'System Restore? You need to go back 
to a date immediately before the installation of Ubuntu to lose the 
least data. Do that first, before reformatting which wipes the HDD clean 
before reinstalling the system.
Somebody correct me if this is incorrect advice.

Hi Rick ... that is a very good idea although being as Windows XP has never 
been on this new hard drive I`m not sure if there would be anything to 
establish a Restore point from . And so far I have not found a Restore point 
feature in Ubuntu . Maybe I could try a Linux command like /dev/hd[a-h] to 
access the main partition and see if I can erase or delete it ... if so it 
would be good-by Ubuntu ... hello clean hard drive .
