(I sent this but did not see it show up so I am sending again.)
My personal favorite printer is having some issues.
Canon pixma mp500 multipurpose

1.) Recently the black quit working.
The cartridge was not even near being empty. I did install a new
cartridge. Did not fix the problem.

I ran a quick print head clean. Did not help.
I ran the thorough one that uses lots of ink.
It DOES show black on that one. But it did not fix the problem.

I did a test printing out something in black, and you can see that the page
has been printed on, but just a faint faint light gray hue is on the page
where some of the typing should be, cannot detect contents of the page.

2.) The 'copier' wasn't working all of a sudden either. Put in a page to
'copy' and it came out blank. I think it looked the same, with just a hint
that something had been printed on the page. <that was last week>

3.) The scanner wasn't working. It was last week and I forget the error
but basically it could not read anything and gave me an error.

Mind you, the printer went from 'working correctly' to all the above quite
suddenly.

The computer it is hooked up to is running windows xp.
Today I deleted or uninstalled the printer and printer drivers in add/remove
programs. I then let it detect new hardware. Got the printer back working
and did some tests. Had some strange results.

A.) I took a page of text, and randomly choose to put some paragraphs in
different colors. The colors printed, the black did not.
When I printed a 'selection' in black, nope, doesn't print.

B.) Ok, next I did a 'copy' test. I put in something small and only part
of it 'copied'/ printed.
So then I put in a full page to copy. The good news, I did get some black
to print.
But, here was a another problem. Take a piece of paper, and draw a line
down the middle and also a horizontal line across the center. That gives
you 4 squares on the page. Looking at it in portrait mode, the upper left
square is the only thing that printed of the whole page when I clicked
'copy'. <strange!>

C.) Scan test. I scanned a page and said to save it on my pc as a pdf.
That wasn't working last week but apparently after reinstalling the printer
that is working. I saw the document on the computer. Yeah.
<Not that I can print it, it is black and white>.

What else can I do to trouble shoot these glitches, #1 and #2?
My guess is I will have to replace my print head.
