We have to put them all in prison, we stand for truth and righteousness like
our lord showed us. We have to get these Edomites, cainenites and children of
the devil out of running our country!!

God bless

Somerset Levels and dredging.
I believe that the wording that you are seeking does not exist. The advice
DEFRA was following was a directive issuing out of the EU requiring EU
countries to let rivers revert to their natural state and one of the reasons
I believe was to encourage the return of wildlife.
We in this country follow EU directives and frequently add a bit more to
demonstrate what loyal Europeans we are. So the soggy boggy Somerset levels,
drained by various peoples since the middle ages by cutting channels to
allow the water from the Polden hills to escape to the sea when the tide was
out were left undredged on the orders of Defra who ignored the warnings of
what would happen if they stopped dredging.
Cumbria flooding, as for as I can find out has nothing to do with lack of
dredging.
It is Caroline Stephens jumping on the bandwagon and quoting stuff that does
not exist. When challenged she comes up with an excuse as she did here with
the crustaceans remark. Challenge her on this and eventually she cannot
answer. Then she requests or tells you that she does not wish to communicate
with you anymore.
She did this with me when I asked for her stance on the Illegal EU
treaties. She obviously knew nothing about our constitution which is
surprising because it is all about our sovereignty. One would have
thought that a UKIP candidate would have been as familiar with it as the
Lord's Prayer.
I've picked Caroline out because she put her head above the parapet. There
are a lot more like her. JohnT

I also believe there must be a directive that says dredging cannot
occur. 2 people now have been interviewed
on the TV and both said it was because of some crustacean living in the
river that they are not allowed to do it. Marilyn

Caroline,
I've spent considerable time reading the directive and have been unable to
find any statement that would cause an issue to Cumbria. Perhaps you
would copy me the text with the paragraph number.
I find it odd that the dredging in Somerset post dates the directive, if
the directive restricts dredging, how did the Somerset dredging proceed?

Crises bind 'communities'!...Unnecessary Disaster in Cumbria!!
Please read.

EU Water Framework Directive, adopted 2000
places constraints on the dredging of rivers.

Here's your explanation - I suspected something like this - now it's
confirmed!

I wonder if these horrific floods will change people's minds over
the EU Regulations - I doubt it, because they will be kept very
quiet!

Worcester has exactly the same problem! The water has nowhere to go
- except through your house!

I blame Common Purpose and daft Councils - as well as the EU regs -
which sensible people would ignore, as lives are at stake! Ask the
folks in Cumbria.......!

We are SO stupid to fall for this ....rubbish - where's the Common
Sense?

EU dredging rules make effective flood
prevention in Britain impossible

SIR -- It is not surprising that the rivers in Cumbria have flooded
again (report December 6), so soon after the last inundation in
2009. The Environment Agency cites all kinds of reasons for this.

However, it neglects to mention that its policy is dictated by the
EU Water Framework Directive, adopted 2000, which places constraints
on the dredging of rivers.

Putting in flood defences does not infringe the policy, as long as
the river is not dredged or embanked. Hence, for example, the
erection of expensive and ineffective glass panels on the wall next
to the Greta river in Keswick. Here there has been absolutely no
dredging of the gravel that has raised the river bed considerably
over the last decade.

There is nothing unusual about heavy rainfall in Cumbria; what is
unprecedented is the refusal of the authorities to dredge the
watercourses to carry it away.
