I was responding mostly to the discussion about the public Mars event (or
maybe I misunderstood).
I was just suggesting that the public would be just as happy to hear that
"Mars is at its closest to Earth this month" as they would be to hear "Mars
is at its closest to Earth today."
And it will be as big as the full moon, right? :-)

Location would be Mike's home.
Opposition is currently May 21, but there's a Full MOon.
Dates could be:
May 7, with a 1 day old, sliver moon that sets quickly in the night
May 28 has no moon that night.
If you want to keep the Mars Party close to the date of Opposition, i'd
keep it in May.
And most likely, we will be less busy, and more able to have a relaxed
"End of the PAS Season" party as well, if we did it on May 28.

either side of opposition. So choosing a night without interference from
the Moon should be possible without losing detail in the Mars viewing.

in the night sky not near the Full Moon, etc. Moon rise and set time, and
anything else you can send my way.
I'd also be interested in knowing how many may attend. So, if you're
interested in attending, just send back a quick reply. This would not be
your RSVP. You'd do that in the calendar once the event is on line.
