I have a feeling that it depends on the size of the pharmacy as to whether or
not they can send controlled medications through either UPS or Fedex, but I
doubt they can send through the regular U.S. post office. United Health Care
is the insurer of AARP, which of course is a major seniors organization.

When I had caremark Mail they sent controlled substances via ups. I am no
longer on mail order.

Actually, when I talked to the Optum RX people, they said yes, they could send
controlled meds via either Fedex or UPS or whatever they use, since it’s not
going through the regular postal system. Don’t know where they send
prescriptions from, where their major headquarters is (probably in another
state). The next three months of psych meds will be through Walgreen’s, but
Optum RX did send me Tramadol and Clonazepam (Clonapin) before without problem,
and I’ve got braille labels on each of the bottles.

If it's mail order, you can't get your controlled stuff there, though. Stupid
California rules, anyway. They make it hard for those of us trying to do the
right thing. If someone wants to abuse their drugs, they'll figure out a way to
do it. You'll still have to get your controlled stuff the old way, probably. :(

Yah, on the same kind of thing, Envision America was talking about how Wal-Mart
could get their machine and we could then have talking bottles. Well, I took
the info to my Wal-Mart, and got nowhere with it. Yah, maybe Wal-Mart corporate
has cleared it, but it's up to the individual stores as to whether they wish to
participate, and guess they pretty much don't.
