Actually, Kathleen, Bobby Vee and Bobby Vinton are two different people. Bobby
Vinton was 27 when "Roses Are Red" was his first big hit in 1962, so that would
make him 80 or close to it by now. I'm sure he's not touring. Bobby Vee has
Alzheimer's Disease and by now is probably being cared for in an institution or
some similar situation. Very sad. Bobby would be 73 now. I was and am a huge
fan of Bobby Vee's, and of course, it's very sad to know that such a vital
person has such a huge and horrible disease. He also lost his wife probably
before the disease was at its worst.

Thought this might be of interest at least to some. Bobby Vee's first
musical influences were actually country. While growing up in Fargo, North
Dakota, he heard artists such as Hank Williams in the early 50's, and the
Williams' record "Cawliga" (pronounced "Caw Lyja" was, in his words, "the
first record I had to do anything about." He loved it so much that he
called the radio station asking that they play it more for him. Country
music would prove to be very popular in and around the Fargo area. He also
loved George Jones, along with his rock 'n roll favorites such as Elvis, the
Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. His brother Bill, who later led a small
combo, loved Johnny Cash. Producer Snuff Garrett allowed Bobby to record "A
Girl I Used To Know" on a 1963 album which was called "The Wonderful World
of Bobby Vee," but the album was never released as Garrett was aware of the
Beatles' huge success in England. In fact, Garrett wanted to sign the
group to Liberty Records. Their manager, Brian Epstein, wouldn't go for it
and later signed with Capitol. Long story short, the track was actually
recorded in the spring of 1963, but it didn't see the light of day until
January 1966.
