My understanding was that Oracle did automatic gap resolution and so the FAL
parameters were not required - have certainly seen gap resolution occuring
without FAL parameters.
Think the difference is
automatic gap resolution is driven from the Primary end where the processes
doing log shipping detects a gap and so "pushes" the missing logs across from
Primary to Standby
FAL is detected at the Standby end and so is more of a "pull" operation using
the FAL parameters to determine where the logs should be requested from and
where they need to be shipped to. Correct init parameter and TNSNAMES
configuration is required to support FAL
Apologies for respomnding to old thread but was digging around on gap
resolution and encountered this post via the Archiver and looking to confirm my
(limited) understanding of Data Guard
