Well,

The only point I see for this product is that it is one product for both SQL
server and Oracle. Since you don't do backup to tape you will have little
advantage to use Rman over hot backup, but that's only my opinion : Rman is
best used when you send backup directly to tape with the SAN vendor Rman
agent. What is not told with Rman is how hard it is to live with a it when you
got a time out on a tape during a 18 hours restore session. A Rman restore is
one job, so you need to open manuals and write PL/SQL to resume the job or
restart the full restore or curse Rman and switch back to hot backup to disk.

Having said that I would keep the current Rman backup method unless you have a
specific goal in mind which does not seems to be the case here.

 Well, that's a good point. I don't think it's
anything to do with RMAN - he doesn't even know what
RMAN is. It's more "this costs extra money so it must
be better that what you get bundled with the
database". Rather than just saying "no it isn't" I
wanted to respond with "no it isn't because....[insert
some knowledge of product]" (or even agree "yes it is"
if I could be persuaded, I'm not averse to tools that
make my life easier, but that isn't happening at the
 moment!)
