Brian,

Your doubts are correct!
 - SA will/should install and set up the (master) Tivoli-TSM server...the
scheduler and metadata and I guess main tape lib software.
 - SA will/should install ONLY the Tivoli-TDPO on each Oracle server.
 - DBA will/should configure Tivoli-TDPO files on each Oracle server (with some
information from SA about the Tivoli-TSM server)
 - DBA will/should configure Oracle-RMAN (links) to write to tape (well
documented and the same for all MML).

>>I see there is a need for RMAN scripts and
Oh yes...long ago I got the rude awakening that all MML Agent For Oracle do NO
scripting unless they have a GUI and/or *basic* provided set of RMAN scripts.
But this is minimal and you will have needs to write or modify these scripts
Also, RESTORE and RECOVER can not be scripted unless it is "all or nothing".
How can I say this, because one can not script (RESTORE and RECOVER) what they
do not know has been lost. ;o)

>>of course some testing to prove it really does backup & restore.
Yes , test ,test, test you backups!
"Backup is easy....it Recovery (Restore) that is hard"

good luck...Tivoli is hard, but good.

Hi Chris,

Thanks. I found some manuals on IBM's site that are bit dated (2003)
for 8i/9i. We're using 10g so I'm going to ask the IBM rep if they
have it written yet. My co-dba thinks the systems people will take
care of it all but I have my doubts. I see there is a need for RMAN
scripts and of course some testing to prove it really does backup &
restore.
