Martin,

a colleague of mine is just doing a small sub-project where he uses
graphviz [1] together with some m4 scripts and SQL of course to create
diagrams out of all the data we have in a repository.

The advantage there: define once and let the scripts do the drawing.
Of course you can only graph informations you have already in a repository.

maybe this is also a way for you?
