RE: Strange problem with controlfile

I don't recall at the moment- are you stuck in such a way that you cannot mount 
the db because of controlfile issues, and you don't have a way to move the 
controlfile now ?  Do you have a backup of your spfile ? You can always leave 
out the problem controlfile description, assuming you have more than one.

Thank you for the comments. But , will the control file location be read when 
database is in no mount state? My understanding is that control file is read 
only when database is in mounted state.

I have seen this before. It has to do with the way OMF is handled on ASM.
The best way to do this is use RMAN to restore the controlfile to another
location.  See this note for details: *How to duplicate a controlfile when
ASM is involved [ID 345180.1]*
I have found ways to get ASM to recognize files with non omf names, but the
above is the cleanest supported way.
