I've no interest in dissing one RDBMS over another. Yes I like Oracle best, but PostgreSql isn't bad either. SQL*Server I have my heartburn with, mainly because of the vendor. But I do find it funny that Oracle which had a running PR war with MySql now has to reverse course because it is in their product line. Kinda like poetic justice??? As my last three work environments, (can't count #Pythian, we do have MySQL DBA specialists on staff to offer extensive professional support of MySQL databases...) I've quickly taken on projects to either build or support MySQL databases. I always found MySQL a database easy to acclimate to since I specialize in Oracle and SQL Server. If only more SQL Server DBA's were actually DBA's, SQL Server could be a real competitor for Oracle, but due to the Microsoft OS and their marketing platform similar to Gieco's, "So simple even a caveman could do it!" I'm not seeing THAT ever happening. I think Oracle is attempting to not make the same mistake that Microsoft has, by pushing MySQL out there to real DBA's to see if they will pick it up, build it right, demand features that need to be introduced to it that will make it a real competitor, etc. You might be surprised what it can do with a knowledgeable design, development and administration behind it... :) So, you should all start picturing the borg from Star Trek, with an Oracle trademark tattoo on their backsides and MySQL installations as part of their base programming saying, "Resistance is futile. You will be assimulated..." :) Kellyn Pedersen Sr. Database Administrator http://www.linkedin.com/in/kellynpedersen www.dbakevlar.com <http://www.dbakevlar.blogspot.com/> ________________________________ From: Steve Harville <steve.harville@xxxxxxxxx> To: pjhoraclel@xxxxxxxxx; oracle-l <oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Mon, January 10, 2011 7:21:27 AM Subject: Re: Latest copy of Oracle Magazine ...
