8i standby databases anyone?

So, anyone out there have an 8i standby database in place? I'm trying to
determine a way to monitor the status of the standby - archive gaps, recovering
or not, etc.
I think I'm going to have to write some host based scripts to do this which is
a huge PITA since this is on windows.
Google is not being much help this morning.
(Fyi - 8i database is for a legacy app that is in maintenance mode only)
