Personally, I have never installed databases on my laptop (back in my
Windows days or today on my Mac). I always install inside a VM (usually a
Linux guest). I have used the instant client on MacOS with success. It is
downloadable from
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html
