Subject: Re: optimal Digest V2 #189 If the problem is only FA related, it is most likely related to the filter solenoids. Sounds like one of the solenoids is sticking or failing. But here is where you need to do further differential diagnosis. 1. Does the problem occur if you leave BOTH filters in for the entire angiogram? You can run a dummy angiogram or 2 to test this. If the camera works, the solenoids or switches are obviously the problem. 2.You might try leaving the exciter filter in and letting the camera insert the barrier filter automatically for a few FA's. If you get no errors, reverse the process. This should narrow down which filter solenoid is failing. It should also offer you a temporary fix (i.e., shoot FA's in the mode that works until you can get a repair done). If you get failures in both modes, the problem may not be the solenoids themselves but the circuit board that triggers them, or a sensor that waits until the filters are seated to fire the camera. The other camera is a bit trickier. Your description implies that the trigger is not sending a signal to start the photographic sequence (send relay mirror up, fire flash, grab picture to computer), but I would check all the connections (fundus camera to relay lens, digital camera to computer, anything else you can jiggle). The wires in the camera that run the joystick trigger are small, and the welds can break, but if that is the case, it won't be long before an intermittent problem becomes a permanent one. If all else fails, call Topcon. The camera suddenly stops working and I am getting all kind of error codes (3,6,8,10..). The first 2-3 IVFAs are fine but then the problem acts up. Maybe it is heat related ? I tried different settings, manual filter insertion, etc. but it does not help. Letting the camera rest, turned off for hour seems to help.. but obviously I don't have the time for that. Obviously it is only IVFA related. Maybe someone had the same problem and can tell me how it was solved. New solenoid put in ? My local Topcon rep could not fix it. Incidentally another Topcon in a different office is also misfiring. Meaning sometimes you have to press the joystick button several times before you can hear the mirror move up and a picture appears. I may get several blank (black) pictures on the screen and then a good fundus picture.. I am not sure if the problem is in the joystick or the eye piece head ? Again this doesn't happen right away, usually on the 3rd or 4th IVFA.... This happens not only when doing IVFA but also when just shooting fundus photographs... Any help is very much appreciated. On ours, I had a problem a couple of months age: pressing the joystick button caused the flash to fire, and it sounded like a regular good exposure, but a black image would appear on the monitor. Turns out the cable from the relay lens was plugged into a computer cable, but the connecters were not screwed into each other. The slightest tension on one would cause the above problem. I don't recall if there was an error code. One thing to add to your troubleshooting list.
