repairing units

Hi,
I'm interested in more information on getting units repaired. Mine works
fine, but I now have to plug it in, so it could use a new battery. Has
anyone on the list tried batteries plus or the like for replacing an
Optacon battery.
My Optacon dates from around 1974.
