However, when I worked for others, I was doing word processing on equipment which was not the PC, and looking back, it was amazing that so many of us did word processing with the other equipment out there and the CRT lense and optacon. Some of us god bad shoulders from it all, and some of us went on to using speech on the PC which I did when I got into business for myself. Oh, my goodness, the memories from all of this. I wonder if all involved at TSI really realized the impact they had on our lives. I would never have stayed employed for as long as I did without the optacon I don't think or I would have had to go on and do something else. The software created for the Optacon II which allowed it to read the computer screens of that day was amazing in that it was a tiny program which could be placed on-disk and used on anybody's computer. (At that time the necessary serial ports were a given on computers). The screen-readeer could be taken to job interviews and actually demonstrated. I've always wondered why TSI did not market that software. Even those who bought Optacon II's did not know of its existance. I used it for six years as my screen reader. Anyway, the dedication of the image, a stand-alone device, an independent way to change the battery if at all possible, and, most important, the ability to view the real print image in real time without any computerized re-interpretation are among my major priorities in a new Optacon.
