Hi, All, Rachel, please see http://www.abtim.com/home__e_/the_videotim/the_videotim.html for some information on the VideoTim *tactile* reading system. For the rest of you: I am seen as a crackpot on this list for daring to suggest something different from the hallowed Optacon, because I dare to express the opinion against its vibration. I will say it again: I will still aim for a reading machine like the VideoTim, and, if I ever get one, I will leave the Optacon in the dust. Of itself, it is truly old technology, and it had its place forty years ago, but, we need to progress to something new and better. I believe that the VideoTim is an example of such an appropriate advancement in technology. That may put someone's nose out of joint, but, frankly, I don't care. I have had enough of being told that I am wrong when there is clearly something else out there. If you want to cling to the past, please count me out! I'm the furthest thing from being an engineer, so I really don't know what I'm talking about in this area. But wasn't there a machine out there that converted print letters to Braille ones as you ran the camera over the print? Why couldn't the image be composed of Braille dot-like pins, just as on Braille displays, that would form the shape of each letter as you ran the camera over the page?
