Hi, All,

John, The major problem seems to be the expense of the VideoTim, and, from what
I have heard so far, it is not interfaceable with a computer, at least not yet.
There is no harm at looking at other approaches.

Mark

"... I don't understand why you need the vibration in order to project the
image. I'm the furthest thing from being an engineer, so I really don't
know what I'm talking about in this area. ..."
[SNIP]

I'm equally far from being an engineer. But I've always understood that,
given the technology of the day, the vibration had something to do with the
Optacon array's ability to refresh itself in what amounted to real time.

So, where is the Videotim in its development? Has anyone on this list seen
or used one?

how does the Videotim compare with the Optacon in the speed with which it
can refresh its display?

How does it compare in affordability (even granting that the Optacon was an
expensive device)?

Has it yet made it to our shores? Will it ever? If so, when? Or if not,
why not?

Inquiring minds ...

In my simplistic view, the good ol' Optacon came about as close to the gift
of eyes we could ever hope for. Now, there are large questions about
whether that gift can be given to future generations, or even remain
available to those of us whose lives it so radically changed.

Regards, all, JH
