Hi Linda,
I don't know Mr. Almendinger, and don't live in Pittsburgh. Another
acquaintance is working with him and I've let my friend know about this
list.

Hi Cindy,

I'm very glad to see your post. I tried to contact Mr. Almendinger today
with repair type questions ... i.e., is he still repairing Optacons and does
he have the parts. I may not be the best person to make contact with him as
I am not in the Pittsburgh area and don't know him, but perhaps through you
he can learn of this list as the goal is to sort of unite those who repair
Optacons so there can be exchange of information between them, as I
understand it. The price for which he is selling the Optacons is extremely
good. My family bought me an Optacon through Sacramento (California)
Society for the Blind which was found through the Sacramento School
District. They charged $750.00 for it, with no guarantee that it was
working properly. Many, many thanks to Richard Oehm, it is now working
wonderfully. I'm glad you are acquainted with Mr. Almendinger, probably far
better than my friend from Pittsburgh whose Optacon he serviced, and perhaps
you could make him aware of this list. My friend Linda thinks the world of
him and has been so pleased to have a working Optacon. She has a second
Optacon which was given to her by a friend but has no financial means to get
it repaired as she is on SSI. I would help her as I have done in the past
but am financially having to be careful myself.

Linda Gehres
