Apple on Monday announced that its customers at its iTunes Music Store has
bought and downloaded more than one million videos in less than 20 days.
Video content first appeared for purchase on October 12, 2005.
Although videos have been available for viewing and have been bundled with
music purchases, Apple first began offering video content for purchase in
mid-October, with the introduction of new 30GB and 60GB "fifth generation"
iPods that can play back video as well.
Apple has over 2,000 music videos, short films from Pixar and TV shows
available for purchase for US$1.99 each. Top draws at the store include
music videos from Michael Jackson, Fatboy Slim and Kanye West, short
features from Pixar including "For the Birds" and "Boundin'" and episodes of
ABC's "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives."
In a statement, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the response to the video content
suggests there is a market for legal video downloads.
"Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers
can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods," said Jobs.
