It depends what you mean by "current."  As I reported on July 22, 2004 (more 
than 15 months ago), a prototype LG set-top box demonstrated in my apartment 
worked conceivably at least as well as NTSC for reception with a fixed, set-top 
antenna.  Not all NY DTT stations were on the air at the time, but, of those 
that were, there was reliable reception of all but one, and they were running 
at lower power than the NTSCs.  The one was located in a different state, and 
even its NTSC version requires some fiddling for me to receive.  With the DTT 
box, I was able to get it reliably with an antenna near the window.

I'd love to repeat the test now that everyone is on the air, but I'm pretty 
comfortable that it works, with lower power than NTSC, with generally 
better-quality results (excessive compression and lip-sync can be problems, but 
neither is attributable to the ATSC standard).

That said, no box demonstrated at my apartment since that prototype -- 
including several that supposedly had the same demodulator -- has worked as 
well as NTSC there.  Furthermore, the successful technology was first publicly 
demonstrated 15 months before it was tested at my apartment.  So, in 30 months 
it has yet to appear in a set-top box someone can buy.

Supposedly, the next (LG-made) DirecTV boxes will have it.  I look forward to 
testing one.
