And the FCC subesquently amended that rule (no doubt due solely in response to my OpenDTV posting)
No doubt! Where would their rulings be without OpenDTV nit-pickers and trouble-makers?
to specifically mandate at least one channel be broadcast in the clear after simulcasting ended. Then they subesquently recinded the simulcasting rule altogether
Well, it's back now. That, or local D/A conversion if required.Cable systems and their lawyers are certainly free to test the FCC's limits of patience, but the FCC has already set the precedent on that score. They have shown no hesitation to slap hefty fines on those who try to get too clever. (I'm thinking of the two companies that continued to deliver NTSC-only sets to their retailers after 1 March 2007.)
