DTTV in Argentina: More details, now in English... [s] Jonas Argentina to follow Brazil with ISDB TV TELCO Latam Argentine Federal Planning Minister Julio de Vido revealed that his country might follow the example of Brazil and adopt the Japanese digital TV standard. It is an important possibility for Argentina to join the Japanese standard, De Vido told an Argentine radio station. The official announcement would be made at the end of September, after a Japanese and a Brazilian mission goes to Buenos Aires. On September 18, a Japanese delegation headed by Vice Minister of Home Affairs and Communications of Japan, Akira Terasaki, will travel to Argentina jointly with a Brazilian mission led by Brazil"s Communications Minister Helio Costa. On that occasion, a final agreement on ISDB adoption is expected to be reached. According to De Vido, the election of a common standard would give a strong momentum to the Mercosur (the economic block integrated by Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay). In turn, Costa added that "Argentina"s decision to eventually adopt the Japanese standard with the Brazilian tools is a major step for the communications across South America, as we have advanced understandings with Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and Venezuela. If these markets are added, the picture shows a good scale just for any product. Julio De Vido underlined that the implementation of a common digital television system "will allow us to be mutually supplied with technology through an open process. In this sense, Argentina"s President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and her peer of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, agreed to hold periodical meetings to look jointly into the possibilities to produce television sets and set top boxes. Costa invited Argentina to participate in the Brazilian Digital TV Forum and the Japanese ISDB Forum. http://sbtvd.cpqd.com.br/?obj=noticia&mtd=detalhe&q=12374
