Sorry, Craig. A cult is a cult. Even the Apple True Believers have been acknowledging this in the press, to justify their long line waits to get to Nirvana (the iPhone5).

The tech world is full of cults; tons of people are making a living creating FUD about "the other guys." Can't blame em - smart phones and tablets are where the action is today as PCs start to fall out of vogue.

Jobs was right when he said that PCs are Trucks. They are not going away, but for MANY people they have become less than relevant in today's mobile world.

You are correct, that Apple has a fair number of cult followers, but I hardly think it is fair to say that the hundreds of millions of Apple customers are all part of a cult.

As for the lines, there is a good explanation that has nothing to do with cults. A huge number of people in those lines were just "opportunists," queuing up to get an iPhone, knowing that they could make a tidy profit reselling on E-bay or to grey market resellers.

Most of us are smart enough to wait a few weeks til the early adopter backlog is cleared, not to mention working through early manufacturing bugs that often accompany new products.
