it's always helpful to give them more input at this point - practice reading dialogues out loud that you write out - learning a song or a poem - listen to native speakers on one of the many on-line resources available JoAnna Coleman Spanish Teacher Wilson High School 503-916-5280 ext. 75231 joannac@xxxxxxx http://profecoleman.wordpress.com/ ________________________________________ From: ola-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <ola-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> on behalf of Martin Kathryn <kmartin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 11:31 AM To: ola@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ola] Re: reversion in one second year class Have them communicate without seeing each other (back to back). Flash pics on the screen and they have to describe while the listener draws or chooses from a master list of pics. That way they can't rely on gestures. -----Original Message----- From: ola-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ola-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Cathy Bird Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 11:23 AM To: OWL listserv Subject: [ola] reversion in one second year class Help! One of my classes has backslid. Since break, they seem to communicate exclusively in nouns, not a verb to be heard! I thought I had brought them back in gently with games of telephone and rock/paper/scissors that reinforced vocab and community. And then I noticed that they are telling stories and thoughts and opinions in noun + pantomime form, even when they have the verbs (and i mean HAVE the verbs, not just covered the verbs). Ideas of where to go next? What is missing - a good hook? Cathy Bird, via iPad
