Just checked our Western Bluebird nest box and found 6 eggs. We are feeding the parents dried mealworms called Happy Hen Treats, purchased at Wilco when they were on sale. We store them in the freezer, and feed the birds morning and night. When the adults are feeding chicks, we offer the mealworms in a shallow pan of water, so as to supply water to the chicks at the same time as they are fed. Last year our pair raised 3 broods, fledging a total of 8 chicks. This year we are off to a big start with 6 eggs! We do practice house sparrow control.
