Thanks to Merle for ebirding the birds seen today. Cold temps prevailed but we were lucky that the rain was never serious while we were outside scoping. We did have snow falling and on the road near Todd Lake at the end of the day. Highlights today, a Red shouldered Hawk, Grebe slam, Great Egrets, Common Loons and a Merlin. Common Merganser Common Loon = 2 at Wickiup, 4 at South Twin. Not sure if anyone found Pacific. Pied-billed Grebe Horned Grebe Red-necked Grebe = Wickiup, North boat ramp Eared Grebe Western Grebe Clark's Grebe = Wickiup from the dam American White Pelican = Wickiup from Dam and from North boat ramp Double-crested Cormorant Great Blue Heron Great Egret Bald Eagle = about 10 or so today. Unidentified Accipiter = described as brown, fairly large. Red-shouldered Hawk = Wickiup near dam, of trees behind power poles Red-tailed Hawk Golden Eagle = Sheep Bridge American Kestrel Merlin = Crane Prairie at road into resort. Prairie Falcon = 2 Wickiup out on stumps American Coot Killdeer Ring-billed Gull California Gull Unidentified gull = possibly Herring, poss pink legs, unable to get close enough to confirm. Northern Flicker Gray Jay = Cow Camp Crane Prairie Steller's Jay Western Scrub-Jay Clark's Nutcracker = Todd Lake American Crow = south Bend Common Raven Mountain Chickadee Red-breasted Nuthatch Rock Wren= 2 in rocks at Wickiup dam Western Bluebird = Wickiup at dam Hermit Thrush American Robin Varied Thrush = dozen or so at Crane Prairie near resort. Stunners! American Pipit = 30 or 40 at Cow Camp at inlet, scattered elsewhere Yellow-rumped Warbler Song Sparrow White-crowned Sparrow = near Cow Camp Golden-crowned Sparrow = Crane Prairie and Cow Camp Dark-eyed Junco Red Crossbill = Cottonwood, wastewater pond House Sparrow Total number of species seen: 58 Birders today Denise Fainberg, Cathy Beck, Merle Greenway, Howard Horvath and Judy Meredith.
