Many of us live in a special management zone and are blithely unaware. If you want to hunt geese here, you must pass a test on ID of white-cheeked geese subspecies. Talking to hunters a decade and a half ago (before Cacklers were elevated to full species) I was struck by their passion for subspecies of Canada Goose, while most birders were blasé.
