The Kinkaid Engineering, Mathematics, and Science Summer Institute was founded in 1975. Our purpose has been consistent since the beginning: to help under-represented Houston area public school students identify their talents and encourage them to pursue a college or university educations and, in particular, careers in science or engineering. Beyond these purposes, it is the hope that the Institute students will be worthy examples of academic ambitions and achievement in their Houston area schools. EMSI is a sequential four-year program beginning the summer after 8th grade. During the first three summers of the program, EMSI students will spend six-weeks on theKinkaid campus taking intensive and challenging academic courses in math, science, and computer technology. The fourth year is designed for students to serve as interns with local sponsoring companies, to provide on the job experience in an engineering or related field. EMSI is offered for FREE to program participants! The program is underwritten through the generous gifts from Houston enterprises, foundations, and community members. Tuition, educational materials, and transportation are fully provided by the Institute.
