Subject: [networkku] Re: Death of EQ/ EQ2 / WoW

 - I'm never gonna play a game thats fekked up with PC'sattacking me and/or
my quest NPC's. - Used to be, if you took part in a GM event, you'd more
than likely screw your Beta Neutral faction, which meant you couldn't do
about 90 % of in game quests. Or kill freeport guards, good luck shopping on
that boat ride to butcher block. Of course these are things that were most
common pre-kunark and shortly after kunarks release, it just didn't make the
game unplayable. If I had a nickle for every time I got a quest mob KS'd or
had a quest screw up in EQ, I'd likely get a year's worth of play time back.
There actually used to be a quest dark elf in Freeport who would run from
one point of the newbie area to the other, and wouldn't stop, and he was
critical to a turn in. Then there was the blued hammer quest in najena,
which was not only broken from the ground up, but required a faction that
didn't exist, and had a KOS mob spawn in the dungeon, just to die to the
mobs around his a
rea, unless you cleared it, then he attacked you. While it would be very
annoying to have a player attack me while doing a quest, it's just as
annoying to have the quest mob despawn after handing in your quest
items...and then stand there wondering what's supposed to happen next
because what he's supposed to do is hand you back a bag full of bixie ears.
At least I can have two friends behind me to back my ass up against a
player. Point being, no game is perfect, especially in it's first year, but
that first year for me is usually the most fun. I hate only playing a game
that I can read A - Z on a spoil site and go farm my phat lewtz on day one.
I like to figure the stuff out and see it " first " . The thing that games
like WoW have going for them is that EQ has been around doing what it's
doing for a very long time ( video game wise ) and they've been able to
watch what's right and what's wrong the entire time. On a side note, DaoC
was touted as being " the bomb " EQ kil
ler. Then when it didn't come through, people started looking ahead to
Horizons ( OMG you can be a dragon !! ) and while waiting for the seemingly
never available Horizons they played say Asheron's Call or Shadowbane.
Basically, it's hard to say what's going to be the best new game out, but if
UO isn't even dead yet, then EQ's sure as hell got some life left in it. It
just might not be the King of the Hill a year from now.
