New charges over web bank scam
Eleven new charges were laid against Andrei Aladuskin, a 25-year old bus
driver, at Australia's Downing Centre Local Court on April 10, 2003,
relating to his alleged involvement in a banking scam. Mr. Aladuskin is
charged with sending customers of the Commonwealth Bank fraudulent e-mail
messages offering them security upgrades to the NetBank Internet banking
service. Unsuspecting customers provided their security passwords for the
service, which Mr. Aladuskin allegedly used to transfer a total of $27,840
to his own account. This is a common type of online fraud, manifestations
of which have been seen around the world in recent years.
