For the "short version" of this text, their URL is http://cictedu.arc.nasa.gov/courses/spring2003/course.html Enjoy! - AMD ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NASA Future Computing and Communications Technology Course --Afternoon Sessions Start on April 17th NASA recognizes the need to ensure our ongoing technological leadership by increasing the near term numbers of students graduating with mathematics and science majors. To foster more interest in these subject areas, The NASA Computing Information and Communications Technology (CICT) Program will webcast a Future Computing and Communications Technology (FCCT) Course at 2:00 PM Pacific Time every Tuesday and Thursday from April 15 through May 15, 2003. The FCCT course will offer High School and College students a glimpse into the exciting careers at NASA. The course will provide students real world experience with emerging computer science research and web-based software they can continue to learn with during and after the class. The content is derived from several NASA-developed projects and is aligned with the national standards (and several state standards) for mathematics, science, and technology education. The FCCT Course available to students with 56Kb or faster web access and RealPlayer ? Software. Each session will be archived, and a live chat session will be available during each scheduled webcast. There will be a pre-session on April 15 for students to test their computers and connectivity. Each presentation will feature leading professionals actively involved their respective fields of research. The course is expected to cover general engineering and design approaches in emerging technology areas such as: - Designing A Space-Based Internet Network - Next Generation Gigabit Networking - Comparing Landing Sites On Mars for Optimal Data Return - Nanotechnology and Biotechnology Overviews - Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device Grid Computing This is a free course offering a certificate of completion to students finishing all session course work and passing the final examination. Pre-registration is required at: http://cictedu.arc.nasa.gov/courses/spring2003/ In addition to the free "audit" class, any students wishing college-level credit may register for one unit of Computer Science through Wheeling Jesuit College, Wheeling, WV at a cost of $100 payable to the College (not to NASA). The CICT Education Outreach Project is offering to underwrite $80 of this cost for the first 100 for-credit students registered (cost to the student would be $20). Further information is available at the web site. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While we know this course will provide students with inspirational glimpses into future NASA missions. However, the course does not imply a promise of NASA employment. Students wishing to inquire about position openings and position requirements are welcome, but they should contact their nearest NASA Center or visit: http://www.nasajobs.nasa.gov/ for any employment information. <>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<> EDUCATIONAL CYBERPLAYGROUND http://www.edu-cyberpg.com <>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<> Net Happenings,K12 Newsletters, Network Newsletters, New-list http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/Community/index.html HOT LIST OF SCHOOLS ONLINE http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/Schools/default.asp EDUCATION VENDOR DIRECTORY http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/TheMall/Home_TheMall.asp SERVICES http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/PS/Home_Products.html <>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>~~~~~<>
