************************************************************** Net Happenings - From Educational CyberPlayGround ************************************************************** From: exp-intro@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (exp-intro@fieldmuseum) Newsgroups: misc.education.science Subject: Online Archaeology Expedition Date: 11 Apr 2003 14:22:13 -0700 The Field Museum of Natural History would like to introduce you to one of its most exciting programs: expeditions@fieldmuseum?. The expeditions@fieldmuseum program, now in its second year, allows you to follow our scientists as they conduct groundbreaking scientific research around the world. These modern-day explorers will let you in on the scientific discovery process through email dispatches and a companion website that features research details, interactive excavation site maps, expedition photographs, and video reports. Four expeditions are planned for 2003 (see schedule below), and the first has recently begun. We invite you to join Dr. Gary Feinman, Chair and Curator of Mesoamerican Archaeology and Ethnology at The Field Museum, and his team on their fifth field season reconstructing prehispanic life on flattened terraces high above the Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico. This year's Oaxaca expedition runs from now until July 1 and seeks more evidence with which to investigate the team's theory that the hilltop site of El Palmillo was a residential center whose inhabitants produced craft goods for exchange. The team will also be gathering more information about the types of social, cultural, and economic interconnections that organized and integrated life on this inhabited hilltop. Check the expeditions@fieldmuseum website every few days to catch up on the latest news, photos, and interactives from the Oaxaca expedition. http://fm4.fieldmuseum.org/expedition/1005/dispatches.jsp Can't wait to be informed?
