Good theory, but those of us using USB external drives are out of luck(won't boot from them). I have been randomly testing time machine backups by opening desktop from last week, etc. Maybe I'm leaving too much to chance, but changing the hard drive in my trusty eMac is a major undertaking(removing logic board, etc.) Just had a thought....
