Doug,
If you check the options on your installation disk, you will find
that one option allows the installation of a bare-bones OS while
applications and files are left 'in situ', if you pardon the expression.
I was quite happy recommending the 'bare-bones OS', but then you hit
me below the belt with your power bar. That leaves me stuttering now.
So let me say that I will go with the odds.
