Thanks to everybody who replies to my question about whether it was safe to
rest an iMac on top of a Time Capsule (and unanimously agreed it was a bad
idea).
The solution to consolidating my desk clutter turned out to be doing just the
opposite: resting the Time Capsule on the shoe of the iMac, right below the
screen. Works perfectly. I'd been so fixated on the notion of doing it the
first way that it had never occurred to me to try the other.---
