The main reason for a Firewire drive over a USB drive is the ability  
to boot
 From the external; the case is USB BTW, not the HD. External  
firewire cases
run about $60, almost twice that of a USB case. So, if your HD went  
kaput you
could simply transfer the external; drive to the G4, but if your  
computer gets
zapped that's a different scenario. HTH.
