Alex,

Please correct me if I'm misreading here, but here are some thoughts on your 
points:

1. PST are just files, and so your computers memory is not the primary concern. 
Disk space might me. But there is nothing wrong with having numerous PST files 
- so long as you know what they are for, And remember, even with the 2Gb limit, 
that's pretty generous!
If you are getting illegal operation errors - we need to know a lot more info 
to be able to assist.

2. If you are asking if Office 2003 is stable? It is. Especially Outlook 2003.

3. I certainly backup my PST files every day - as I do ALL my important data 
files... Common sense, really.  ;-)
